Meet Our Leaders:
Trudy Green is a retired School Counselor. Her husband suffered a brain aneurysm suddenly on September 6, 2009 and was taken off of life support on September 7th. They were high school sweethearts and had been married 34 years with 2 sons. Since he was brain dead, they had to keep him at the hospital for 24 hours before they could legally take him off of life support. During this time, they were also trying to find recipients for his organs. He saved 8 people through organ donation. While waiting at Emory that night, she developed a rare condition called Broken Heart Syndrome. By the time they rushed me downstairs to the ER, I didn’t have a pulse. I was dying… of a broken heart. They saved me by rushing me to surgery and placing me on a heart balloon pump. I was on life support for 5 days.
I found out about MWC because of a friend and co-worker of Mary Hines-Bone (now Wade), who was the original Chapter Leader of the Atlanta Chapter. She started telling me about her plans to start a chapter here, and I told her I would help her in any way I could. I have been with the Chapter from the beginning. I felt that with my counseling background, I could help other widows on their journey. Also, after almost dying from Broken Heart Syndrome, I believe that God kept me here for a reason. I believe helping other widows is one of those reasons.
Linette Matos lost her husband 5 years ago after a short battle with Necrotizing Pancreatitis on June 10, 2012. They had just celebrated their 18th Anniversary and had been together for 21. They have a boy and a girl. She also leads a Grief Share group at her church. When Linette first found MWC, she followed the posts and words of encouragement on Facebook. She felt so encouraged, she got involved in the Atlanta Chapter from it’s beginning. She enjoys being able to give back by encouraging other widows to lean into life and watch them flourish in this new journey.
