Spice Up Your Life: Trust, Ask, and Cheer

Last month I had the opportunity to spend time with MWC founder and Development Director, Carolyn Moor, in Franklin, Tennessee, during the MWC Leadership conference.
It was fascinating to get a behind the scenes look at the virtual production that brought together 80 leaders from around the world. Carolyn worked tirelessly through it all. It seemed as though every thought, every breath, every moment, she was advocating for all of us, her widows, and cheering us on.
At breakfast, one day, Carolyn looked up from her laptop and said, “We will have victory.” With her words, a cheer from high school popped into my head and I started chanting:
“Go, go,
Beat, beat,
Victory, victory,
Not defeat”
Carolyn and I then reminisced about our days as high school cheerleaders. She said loved the gymnastics aspect of it and I loved it because I got to hang out with my friends.
Later that morning, as I perused the shops of downtown Franklin, I thought further about the wisdom that Carolyn shared during the conference. She said, “There comes a point in your life where you need to trust yourself,” trust your intuition. She also said, “This is the year of the Big Ask.”
After lunch at a cute coffee shop, I followed my intuition into Franklin’s Landmark Bookstore. Posted at the door was one of my favorite scriptures, “Love God with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength, and love your neighbor as yourself.” (Have I mentioned that I met Blake, my late husband, when he bought the place next door and became my neighbor?) I took this to be a good sign!
While chatting with the owner of the bookstore, I asked if he did book signings and if so, if he would host one for me. He said, “Yes.” He said, “YES!!!” I was (and still am) giddy with excitement, I’ve never had a book signing before, let alone published a book, but it’s coming forth, all I had to do was TRUST and ASK!
Before I departed Franklin, Carolyn and I had one last breakfast together at the Frothy Monkey coffee shop. Carolyn talked about one of the keys to success, she said, “You need to be your own cheerleader.” Yes, yes!
“Go, go,
Beat, beat,
Victory, victory,
Not defeat”
These days we are living in right now can feel very dark and heavy, I know it first hand as I recently lost three family members in three months. But I know that the darkness will again depart and I know that I can get through it and I know that you can too. You’ve already come so far and I honor you for you courage, for your strength, and for your perseverance. “Trust” that you are being guided, make the “Big Ask,” and keep going, keep going, keep going. Victory awaits you.
“Go, go,
Beat, beat,
Victory, victory,
Not defeat”
I’m cheering you on, as is Carolyn, the MWC Leadership team, and your fellow Wisters.
Happy Thanksgiving,
Jennifer B.
